Essex Juniors are rapidly improving their chess
Sunday, December 4th saw 36 Essex Juniors ranging in age from 6 to 13 travel to Writtle, Chelmsford for six hours of training, graded games and fun. With an excellent player:coach ratio of 9:1, these lucky juniors received expert coaching from 4 coaches with average grades exceeding 200, led by International Master, Richard Pert, with excellent support from Tom Villiers, Robin Slade and Russell White
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Greg Thompson (Ewing Associates) and Jagdeesh Cheema (Allcures.com), the entire cost for a day of coaching, snacks, 2 graded games and books prizes for half the children is £15. Today's session was the 3rd of 5 planned for 2016-17 school year in preparation for the National Championships this Spring, where Essex is looking to challenge the country's leading counties. Today's theme was focussed on Middle game tactics and plans, building on the opening and end game lessons from previous sessions.
The next training session is Sunday, January 8th. If you have a child between the ages of 6 and 14 interested in learning chess and playing for Essex, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to reserve a place. A flyer for this event can be found under View tournaments on this website.
