Under 14 Team Qualify for SCCU Final
The under 14 team played their fourth fixture of 2017/18 at home against Kent at the King’s Road Primary School, Chelmsford on 10 March 2018. We had to win this match or score more than nine game points to make the tournament final for the second year running.
We were up against a young but keen Kent side and there were many close games. Despite this, the Essex players did not give the Team Manager too many worries and after the first round we already had a 9-3 lead. In the interval before the second round we had a team photo (see below) as we had all but qualified for the Final! In the second round the Essex players continued to concentrate hard and this time we won 8½ to 3½ making a total winning margin of 17½ to 6½.
Several of our players won both of their games and it was a very good effort from all the players to have won all four of their matches so far in 2017/18. The Final will be a three way Jamboree event with the date and venue to be arranged. The opposition will doubtless be strong but we hope to field our best team and keep to our winning ways.
Thanks to all parents for their help with refreshments plus setting up and clearing away at the venue. Full details of the team scores should appear on https://sccu-chess.com/index.php/en/east-league-17-18 at some point.
