On Sat 12th March, Essex U9s took on the Eastern counties in the Zonal qualifier in Newham.

Nine counties competed for 6 places, where the qualifiers would compete in the finals to be held in the Nottingham in April.

A full squad of 4 girls and 13 boys from all over Essex made the event, some of whom had only started to play in the last 6 months.

Ages ranged from 5-8yrs old most of which were representing their county for the first time.

A solid start in Rnd 1, with a better result in Rnd 2 placed Essex in the top half of the table.

The final round took its toll on some of the players, with early finishes working against the count.

Rnd 1 - 5.5 pts

Rnd 2 - 7 pts

Rnd 3 - 4 pts

The final scores were in, and Essex fell short by a 1/2 point.

Many thanks to all the personal drivers that couriered the young brainiacs into the city. The team gave everything they could but fell short by a 1/2 point. It just goes to show, every point counts.

Thanks also to team manager Declan Kilcline and his able assistant Richard Pert.

A mention to Mr Davis' dad also for keeping tally of the scores as the squad returned from their personal challenges.
